WHĀNAU FLATS

Whānau Flats are shared accommodation with other flatmates. Each flat is fully furnished, with a room made up and weekly cleaning of common areas. Payment Board covers your room, cleaning, internet, utilities, rubbish, lawns and basics such as toilet paper and dishwashing liquid. Each flat has a kaitiaki (guardian); a flatmate that helps the Legacy team develop a supportive and safe whanau culture. Volunteer chaplains visit each flat to provide a free shared meal to help with personal costs and further build a sense of whanau in each home. Van pick-ups are available to access a free weekly meal at the local Legacy Community Centre, attend men’s and women’s support groups or to attend a church service on Sunday’s. This is all aimed at creating a supportive living environment for those who want to access these services.

YOUTH TRANSITIONAL HOUSING

Youth Transitional Housing is a safe and supportive place for people 17-24 years old to live while they work towards their goals. It’s subsidised, so board is affordable. In transitional housing, you’ll have a safe and secure place to stay for up to a year and a support worker who will help you develop the skills and confidence to move into permanent housing and thrive on your own. It’s not just about having a roof over your head—it’s about creating a strong foundation for your future.

PRISON CARE

PRISON CARE

Prison is a traumatic experience, both for the individual and their family. We provide several services to help. We visit people inside, we visit families of prisoners, and we provide a safe and supportive house for people who want to change their lives when they are released. Our house for people who are recently released has a live in Kaitaiki with mentors who are there to help people on their journey towards freedom.

WRAP AROUND SUPPORT

WRAP AROUND SUPPORT

Legacy runs Community Centres in Palmerston North, Levin and Whanganui. We run a free weekly meal at each of our locations and have people who can support you with challenges like addiction, mental health, past trauma, loneliness and isolation and financial hardship. If we can’t help you personally, we will be able to connect you with the right people who can.
