TIME FLIES WHEN YOU'RE HAVING FUN

Check out what God has done through Legacy over the years.

2013

John Crowther got a word from God to start feeding people in the Highbury community. He teamed up with John Faiz and group of people started Just Hope community meal.

2014

John and Kiri started Legacy in Highbury with a handful of people. God told them not to get a job or go on a benefit but to trust him and he would provide for all their needs. They stepped out in faith and saw God move.

2017

We saw people saved, healed and delivered. We outgrew our building in Highbury and moved into the city where we met in whatever venue we could find.

We took over Shepherd’s Rest Trust and started housing people who had nowhere to live. We rebranded it Legacy Housing and it quickly grew to become the largest non-government social housing provider in the city. We now house roughly 400 people a year.

Shine TV contacted John and asked him to supply Sunday messages. Through partnering with Shine TV our messages reach over 100,000 people a week.

2018

We searched for a permanent space and eventually secured 200 Church St. We turned a warehouse into a place of worship in two weeks so more people could find a church.

2019

Jay and Serena Cootes started Just Hope and night services in Levin. God added people to our Levin location and they relocated to pastor that community.

Kiri started running events to raise money for victims of sex trafficking in 2013. We formed a stronger partnership with SHE Home in Cambodia when Kiri visited in 2019 and have raised thousands of dollars for this cause.

2020

A number of other churches started using our BASIC discipleship curriculum to establish new believers in their faith. Hundreds of books have been distributed to local churches at cost.

2022

We outgrew our space in Levin and needed a permanent location. We secured 12 Keepa St and turned an old screen-printing factory into a community centre and place of worship.

2023

We always had a conviction that, just as it wasn’t good for individual Christians to be alone, that it wasn’t good for churches to be alone. We joined the Acts Churches movement so that we could partner with other churches to see the nations reached with God’s love.

2024

John got a word about “outreach South Pacific”. We connected with Moses and Talitha Miller and started Legacy in Savusavu Fiji on the 28 January. Our Fiji location has a strong ministry to young people.

One of our pastors received a dream about a specific building in Whanganui with a Legacy Church in it in 2022. The building came up for lease 18 months later and we secured it. Shadze and Laken started Just Hope and then morning services in 150 Puriri St in Castlecliff on 4 February.

We celebrated our 10 year anniversary! Who knows what God has planned for Legacy for the next 10 years, but we will remain focused on connecting seekers to a community of growing Christ-followers who are changing the world.
